Up to this point of Year 12 Media Studies, we've been watching many different thriller openings to prepare ourselves for our Subsidiary and Main Tasks. We've watched a variety of different thrillers, including The Usual Suspects, Memento, The Birds and Pacific Heights. From these, we've explored the different conventions of thrillers, and gained ideas for the task given to us. At this point, we are now planning a story board for the Subsidiary task and we're familiarising ourselves with the cameras and editing equipment. So far we have done one lesson of shooting, where we learnt about the different controls on the camera - such as zoom and focus etc. This was only a practice, but prepared us well for the final Subsidiary Task as we now believe we are ready to start filming. During this practice, we only managed to film one shot, which was surprisingly less than we had expected; as we had set ourselves the target to film at least three shots. The shot we filmed was short and simple, but effective. It looked fairly professional as we used a zoom which worked really well with the idea of the storyboard, making the impression that our actress was running late.
